Varanasi Ranks 10th in India for Rooftop Solar. Here's What Kashi's Solar Homes Are Saving
Varanasi has become one of India's top 10 cities for rooftop solar, with over 39,000 systems. A look at what that means for local homes.
Our home city is leading the way. In May 2026, Varanasi was reported as 10th in the country for rooftop solar installations under PM Surya Ghar, ahead of several much larger cities.
Kashi's solar story in numbers
By that report, 39,018 rooftop systems had been installed in Varanasi. Together they generate about 6.6 lakh units of electricity every day, save households an estimated ₹144 crore a year, and cut around 1.58 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions.
