8.25 Lakh UP Homes Now Run on Rooftop Solar. The Subsidy Window Closes in March 2027
Uttar Pradesh has crossed 8.25 lakh rooftop solar homes under PM Surya Ghar. Here's what that means for you, and why applying early matters.

Uttar Pradesh has become one of India's leading states for home rooftop solar. According to a September 2026 report, more than 8.25 lakh households in the state now have rooftop solar under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, backed by over ₹7,300 crore in central and state subsidy.
Why this matters for your home
Every one of those homes now produces its own electricity during the day and exports extra units to the grid through net metering. For a typical family, that means a much smaller electricity bill every month, for 25 years or more.
The report also notes that around 7,a registered vendors are now working across UP. More choice is good, but it also means quality varies. Before you sign, check that your installer is registered on the national portal, uses approved panels, and will be there for service after installation.
The deadline to keep in mind
The scheme currently runs until 31 March 2027. Approvals, installation and net metering take time, so homeowners who start now have the best chance of getting the full benefit: up to ₹78,000 central subsidy plus up to ₹30,000 from the UP government, a total of up to ₹1,08,000.
